Getting to know us……
Heart Center of Yuma
is a state-of-the-art technologically advanced cath lab in a
compassionate caring environment that does interventional and non
interventional procedures on the heart and vascular system.
Listed below
are some of the services that we provide
Implantable devices.
At the Heart Center of Yuma, patients with severe arrhythmias are
referred to our Pacemaker and Defibrillator Implant specialist. Our
experienced physicians use state-of-the-art technology to implant
control devices in order to fully restore the heart's regular rhythm.
These devices have been shown to be valuable tools for the treatment of
congestive heart failure and life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias,
two major causes of sudden cardiac death.
Balloon
angioplasty for coronary arteries and peripheral arteries that supply
the kidneys, legs, brain, and arms.
Our expert interventional cardiologists offer the latest
technology in this minimally invasive treatment for the re-opening of
arteries that have been occluded by atherosclerosis.
Angioplasty
is
used to re-open coronary arteries that have become narrowed by
atherosclerotic plaques. This procedure is used to treat blocked
coronary arteries as well as arteries in other parts of the body.
Angioplasty requires only local anaesthesia and perhaps mild sedation
(relaxing medications). Patients typically spend the night in the
hospital and are able to return to normal activity in a day or two.
During balloon angioplasty, a thin tube (catheter) is inserted
into an artery in the groin. A tiny balloon is then passed through the
catheter and is guided to the narrowed area('s), where the balloon is
expanded to stretch open the artery.
In many cases, angioplasty is followed by the insertion
of a stent — a metallic tubular mesh that acts as a scaffold, holding
the artery open. At Heart Center of Yuma, we offer the latest stenting
technology, including drug-coated stents that help to prevent the
blockage from re-forming at a later time.
Stenting.
The coronary stent is a mesh tube (usually stainless steel and cloth)
that is placed inside a vessel after angioplasty to support the walls of
the artery, ensuring improved blood flow. We offer the most advanced
stenting technology — including drug-coated stents — to help prevent
re-stenosis of treated coronary, carotid, renal and other peripheral
vessels.
Treatment of Peripheral Arterial Disease
Balloon
angioplasty for peripheral arteries that supply the kidneys, legs,
brain, and arms.
Our expert interventional cardiologists offer the latest
technology in this minimally invasive treatment for the re-opening of
arteries that have been occluded by atherosclerosis.
Plaque build-up in the arteries, called atherosclerosis,
occurs throughout the body. When atherosclerosis occurs in arteries
outside the heart, the patient has peripheral arterial disease, which
can affect any artery from head to toe. When the blockage is in the
arteries supplying blood to the brain (carotid arteries), the patient is
at risk for stroke. When it involves the arteries to the arms (subclavian
arteries), movement or use of the arm can cause pain in the arm or even
angina in individuals who have previous bypass surgery. Atherosclerosis
in the renal arteries that supply the kidneys can cause renal
dysfunction or severe high blood pressure. Plaque can also accumulate in
the arteries to the legs, causing pain at rest or with walking.
Dr. Joseph Cardenas,
an interventional cardiologists at
Heart Center of Yuma, is one of the physicians that has extensive
expertise in the successfully treatment of blockages in peripheral
arteries. Dr. Cardenas use the same proven, minimally invasive methods
used to clear blockages in the coronary arteries, namely angioplasty and
stenting, to treat peripheral arterial disease without surgery and with
excellent results.
